New Co-Chairs of the Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML)

The Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML) was launched at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in June 2012 in response to a request set out in the Manila Declaration on Furthering the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities.  

The partnership is led by a Steering Committee where FAO has a permanent seat

The GPML Framework Document states in section III. C. 8. (h):

Two co-chairs will be selected by the Steering Committee members for a term of two years, renewable by agreement with the Steering Committee.” 

FAO and the Seychelles, were selected in April 2018, and they have thus reached the end of their term

On 4th June 2020, both Co-Chairs stepped down from their roles to allow other Steering Committee member take the Co-Chair positions. 

The two new Co-Chairs will be officially selected and announced during the last meeting of the GPML Steering Committee of 2020 which will take place by the end of November or early December.
