The GloLitter project kicks off

18/02/2021

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held a first informal session with several countries committed towards preventing and reducing marine plastic litter from maritime and fisheries sectors.

The GloLitter project kick off meeting, held on Thursday 18 February, took place after a long selection process which led to States confirming their participation in the project.

Seventy four persons representing 28 participating countries and three current Strategic Partners (UNEP, UNGC and GGGI), with time zones spanning 19 hours, participated in this first meeting where the Project Coordination Units provided a general overview of the GloLitter project, the progress made, and explained what the next steps at regional and country level will be. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions on the work plan presented.

In the coming weeks, the final list of participating countries will be officially announced and published in this Web site.
