15 October 2018, Rome- The meeting aimed to enhancing the recognition of small-scale fisheries to food security and nutrition,as well as to ensure a human rights-based approach is taken to fully capture fisheries' contribution to food security and nutrition for the most vulnerable.

During the event it was highlighted that fish in food systems may not necessarily appear to dominate at a global level, but can be essential in the nutrition and livelihoods of dependent sub-populations within countries, including in least developed and landlocked countries.

Built on the momentum created by this year’s CFS hosting a Global Thematic Event on the Right to Food Guidelines and the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition, this event presented ongoing efforts at global, regional and national levels.

The activity was jointly organized by FAO, ECOWAS, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Duke University, WorldFish and Michigan State University.
