The Right to Food

Let these right to food-related resources update you in May!

News - 29.04.2022

The right to food is a cross-cutting issue. There are many dimensions interrelated, actors and processes involved, diversity of visions, subtle difference between concepts or emerging issues.

In order for every person to be able to fulfil the right to adequate food, or to advocate for its implementation, an understanding of certain issues and skills are needed.

The materials available on this page are studies, platforms and other resources that have been recently published not only by FAO but also other entities, sometimes issues in one or more of the six official FAO languages. The selection of items has been made by the FAO Right to Food Team, who aims to share information, provide practical guidance and stimulate debate on various aspects of the right to food.

Over 2022 FAO will be posting an update of these resources.

We hope you find them useful and enjoy this food for thought!

CARE

As the World Rapidly Ages, We Need More Migrant Care Workers|Center for Global Development

As people age, many find themselves needing long-term care. This demand among older people is outpacing the growth of the care workforce, with the predicted need for care workers surpassing the entire health sector in some contexts. The scale of this challenge is rarely given the policy attention it deserves, nor is the fact that migration is an effective way to meet long-term care needs.

These have changed the game for talking about public health nutrition and food systems change with a clear roadmap ahead.

The politics of Protein| IPES

This report assesses the sustainability of livestock, fish, and 'alternative proteins' – and sets the record straight on the misleading claims and false solutions that dominate today's debates. The study recommends to shift the focus from 'protein transition' to sustainable food system transition, refocusing on broad sustainability metrics within territorial/ regional contexts, refocusing innovations on the public good and democratize the debate.

Schooling for All: Feasible Strategies to Achieve Universal Education|Center for Global Development
