El Salvador - Launch of the Right to Food Awareness Campaign

News - 03.03.2014

On 20 November 2013 the FAO Office in El Salvador launched the Right to food awareness campaign and its linkages with Food Security and Nutrition, created together with the Association of Participatory Radio and Programmes of El Salvador (ARPAS), with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) of El Salvador.

The radio campaign contains ten messages about rights and responsibilities of everyone to ensure the realization of the right to adequate food. The messages also aim at disseminating information about eating and living healthy. The campaign wishes to sensitize people on adequate dietary needs, fighting obesity and keeping a physically active lifestyle. Finally, it promotes family farming as a way to improve availability and access to healthy food for all. More information on Campaign also available here.

The initiative marked another important step of the FAO Office in El Salvador in support of the Government, civil society and national stakeholders to achieve the progressive realization of the right to food. El Salvador is one of the countries which included in its priorities the development and implementation of a Food Security and Nutrition Policy and where a Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security is currently under the process of approval. The campaign is also supported by the AECID through its Special Programme for Food Security (Programa Especial para la Seguridad Alimentaria) and by the Government of Norway through the project Right to Food at Country Level.
