Celebration of the International Day of Potato in the Russian Federation

Potatoes contribute to global food security and nutrition, and livelihoods. Two-thirds of the world’s population consume potatoes as a staple, and it is the third most available food crop globally.
To celebrate the International Day of Potato 2025 (IPD 2025) FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation together with the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Lorkh Federal Research Center of Potato" will hold a scientific and practical conference on Friday, 30 May 2025, at 11:00-14:00 (Moscow time).

The theme for the IDP 2025 is “Shaping history, feeding the future”, which signals the plan to use this year’s observance to look back on the history of the potato, how the crop has influenced civilization, and how it has contributed to transforming cultures and countries’ agrifood systems. In this regard, the event will be devoted to the topic of the biological value of potatoes and seed production of this crop.
Representatives from governmnet bodies, internatioanl organizations, academia and research centres as well as privite sector companies and farmers will take part in the event.
