Policy debate on food waste – European Committee of the Regions (CoR)
On 1 March 2016 the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) Commission of Natural Resources (NAT) hosted a policy debate on food waste. The Opinion working document on food waste presented for the debate was drafted by Ossi Martikainen, local councillor of Lapinlahti (Finland) and member of the CoR.
CoR is the voice of regions and cities in the European Union (EU). It currently has 350 members from regional and locally elected representatives of the 28 EU countries. Among its 6 commissions covering competences based on policy areas of the EU Treaties there is also the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) that coordinates the CoR’s work on consumer protection and food production, among others.
The Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction works in collaboration and partnership with the public sector, the private sector and with the civil society at local, sub-national, national, regional, and global level for policy development, research, and identification and implementation of solutions.
