FAO Director-General Graziano da Silva: “Addressing food loss and waste should be one of our highest priorities in the response to climate change”

Following the celebrations for World Food Day 2016, FAO released its annual flagship publication, The State of Food and Agriculture, which assesses issues in agricultural and rural development in the context of global food security. Postharvest Management side event at GFRAS 7th annual meeting

The Community of Practice on food loss reduction was presented at a side event on Postharvest Management (PHM) organized by AFAAS and its PHM partners held during the GFRAS 7th annual meeting in Cameroon. Numerous campaigns around the globe have resulted in a heightened awareness and concern about food loss and waste among consumers, manufacturers, processors, suppliers and other partners in the food supply chain. United Nations Climate Change Conference 2016
COP 22

The 22nd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 22) is scheduled to take place from 7 to 18 November 2016. During COP 22, parties will begin preparations for the entry into force of the Paris Agreement. SAVE FOOD is one of the cooperative initiatives included in the Global Climate Action Agenda and has brought the challenge of food loss and waste (FLW) into the international climate arena. Revealed: the full scale of supermarket waste

The London-based Evening Standard has just released the first-ever league table ranking the United Kingdom’s top ten supermarkets according to the proportion of surplus food they donate to charity for human consumption. Agriculture will force the food industry to donate surplus (Spanish)

Canada’s poor record in reducing food waste
CBC News

France has made it illegal for supermarkets to waste food, and Italy is offering tax breaks to businesses that donate left-overs, but Canada still has no plans to introduce a policy that addresses its food waste. According to a 2014 report from Value Chain Management International, Can$31 billion-worth of the country’s food ends up in landfills or composters each year. + READ MORE

App for fighting food waste is a big hit in Denmark
