“From Seeds to Foods”: a visual journey now captured in a report about the exhibition

22/12/2025

What does it take to feed the world – today and tomorrow? The answer came to life in “From Seeds to Foods,” FAO’s first-ever global exhibition, and that experience is now captured in a vibrant, image-led report that invites everyone to explore it anew.

Held in Rome, Italy, on10–13 October 2025, during FAO’s 80th anniversary and the 5th World Food Forum, the exhibition transformed the Park of Porta Capena – into a 12 000 m2 open-air journey through global agrifood systems. For the first time, FAO stepped beyond its headquarters to meet the public, presenting food as a shared heritage, a scientific pursuit and a powerful cultural expression.

Nearly 10 000 visitors explored immersive spaces dedicated to crops, horticulture, livestock, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture. Six regional pavilions showcased foods and stories from around the world, while the Innovations in Agrifood Systems Pavilion highlighted cutting-edge tools – from seed conservation and hydroponics to satellites, drones and plant-health technologies. In the Foods of the World area, chefs, farmers and producers brought food to life through live cooking, tastings and storytelling.

With 200 exhibitors from over 145 countries and territories, the exhibition blended science with tradition, learning with play. Talks, workshops, performances and children’s activities filled the park with dialogue and discovery, reflecting FAO’s vision of the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life – for all.

The newly published “From Seeds to Foods” report mirrors this journey. Designed like a visual catalogue, it tells the story through photographs, short captions and key figures –  capturing the people, ideas and energy that made the exhibition possible. More than a record, it is a visual memory and a seed for future editions.
