Workshop Regeneration of Compacted Forest Soils

29 Oct 2015 - 29 Oct 2015

Modern forestry is connected with heavy machinery driving on easily compacted forest soils. To assess the severity of the resulting soil damage we must know, how long it will persist.

The main questions are:

-      Is there a spontaneous regeneration of soil structure in forests? How can it be observed? What is the time scale? What are the main regenerating processes?

-      How urgent is regeneration from the perspective of forestry?

-      Is it possible to promote the restructuring of soils in growing forest stands? What can be done to regenerate / repair existing compactions?
