12° FESTIVAL DELLE TERRE
ONU and FAO declared 2015 the “International Year of Soil”. This is a key topic since the beginning of the festival. This year we propose again a reflection about the Land to promote awarness of it.
The festival is divided into three sections:
- Indigenous People: Tales of dignity - Uno no vende la tierra por la cual camina su pueblo
- Lands to respect, Lands to safeguard, Lands to preserve, Lands to farm
- Lands of Resistance: Alternatives to feed the World
The opening ceremony will take place at Teatro Ambra - Garbatella on 12 October, h. 16.00. On Monday, October 12, the Festival delle Terre will host the movie The Rice Bomber, a feature film from the woman director Cho Li, selected at 64ª Berlin International Film Festival. On October 13 the festival will host, among others, the film By the River (Sai Nam Tid Shoer) directed by Nontawat Numbenchapol, special Jury mention at 66° Locarno Film Festival. During the closing day the Italian audience will have the chance to see, among others, Sans terre c’est la faim by Amy Miller and Drill Baby Drill by Lech Kowalski. In addition there will be various documentaries directed by young authors of the independent Italian scene as Brasimone by Riccardo Palladini (official selection at Visions du Rèel 2014), and Terra di transito by Paolo Martino (Aquila Doc Award 2014).
After each screening there will be a moderated discussion with the audience and, in some cases, with the directors of the movies.
The Festival is organized by International Centre Crossroad (Crocevia), an Italian public interest NGO founded in 1958. Crocevia works on environmental and agrarian issues, with specific focus on community alternatives. It works in partnership with many local and national civil society and small food producers' organizations in Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle-East and Europe.
