03 Dec 2015

Soils are the foundation of our ecosystem and they support the production of food that feeds billions of people and other animals on our planet. They are amazingly complex ecosystems in their own right with some startling chemical and physical properties, and they contain a huge diversity of organisms that are essential to life on earth. However, public awareness of soils is low; in Canada, we undervalue their importance and in all parts of the world soils are disappearing at an alarming rate due to erosion, urbanization and other factors. of World Soils Day (December 4) and the FAO International Year of Soils (2015), come and learn some amazing facts about our most important natural resource.
