Building UK Soils with the Soil Association
The soil is like the skin of the Earth, teeming with life. It provides a variety of resources, from acting as a carbon source and sink to regulating nutrient cycles as well as possessing the majority of the Earth’s genetic diversity. It takes roughly 500 years to form an inch of soil, but less than a year to destroy it, highlighting the fragility of this precious resource.
Now 2015 has been declared the International Year of the Soil by the 68th UN General Assembly, making it a priority to increase awareness of the importance of soil as an essential resource in sustaining life on the Earth. The Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures has invited two expert speakers from Soil Association UK for a seminar and discussion on this vital resource and our need to conserve it.
Our speakers are Ben Raskin, Head of Horticulture at the Soil Association and Louise Payton, Policy Officer at Soil Association. The Seminar will consist of presentations from both speakers, each followed by a discussion.
