A day-long celebration of soil
07 Nov 2015
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has declared 2015 the International Year of Soils to bring awareness to the importance of soil, and inspire action to protect and conserve it. November's theme is Soils and Climate.
Healthy soils sustain and contain life. In fact nearly 25% of the world's biodiversity can be found in soil! This wealth of life directly contributes to the nutrients available for healthy food production. Healthy soil has an incredible water storage capacity, regulates climate, and is essential in preventing desertification. Soils even help in carbon sequestration!
