This animated film tells the reality of soil resources around the world, covering the issues of degradation, urbanization, land grabbing and overexploitation; the film offers options to make the way we manage our soils more sustainable.

Soil is a finite natural resource. On a human time-scale it is non-renewable. However, despite the essential role that soil plays for human livelihoods, there is increasing degradation of soil resources worldwide. The 5th of December -World Soil Day- becomes a day to raise awareness and celebrate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human well-being.

In this interview, Ronald Vargas, Soils and Land Management Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, describes the many benefits of and threats to this natural resource, and underlines the importance of a sustainable approach to managing soils in the Post-2015 development agenda.
