Mogadishu - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) sign a data sharing agreement in Mogadishu, establishing a framework for exchanging beneficiary data. This agreement aims to enhance data-driven targeting in humanitarian assistance while upholding the highest standards of data protection.
Etienne Peterschmitt, FAO Representative in Somalia, and Filip Lozinski, DRC Somalia Country Director signed the agreement on behalf of their respective agencies. The signing ceremony at FAO Somalia country office in Mogadishu was attended by senior management and programme personnel of both agencies.
The purpose of this agreement is to enable both agencies to offer complementary assistance, de-duplication and to facilitate data driven targeting and referral pathways. It covers strictly confidential data of beneficiary households, which will be managed with stringent data protection protocols to ensure secure exchange and storage.
Speaking at the signing ceremony FAO Representative in Somalia Etienne Peterschmitt underscored the crucial role of data in FAO’s programme design and planning.
“We are committed to an evidence-based programming and this agreement is a significant step in strengthening that approach” said FAO Representative in Somalia Etienne Peterschmitt.
DRC Somalia Country Director, Filip Lozinski, highlighted the significance of the agreement in strengthening collaboration and ensuring effective humanitarian response.
“The present and future of humanitarian work, particularly in Somalia, is collaboration. What we are doing today is to commit to work together to maximize the impact on the community we serve,” said DRC Country Director in Somalia Filip Lozinski.
FAO works across Somalia providing support to households in need through cash, inputs and services. FAO is involved in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries sectors. Through the E-Platform, FAO Somalia ensures a 3600 management of beneficiary information enabling an efficient, robust and effective implementation of activities. The E-Platform provides beneficiary registration, data quality assurance, verification and reconciliation for traceability and transparency.
This agreement is intended to enable more effective programme design and planning, facilitate referral pathways, facilitate beneficiary deduplication and verification exercises where appropriate, and ensure appropriate coordination on resource allocation and targeting decision-making. The data sharing between DRC and FAO platforms will also greatly improve collaboration and ensure beneficiaries receive the highest quality assistance.
