Experts speak out on improving international investment cooperation

26/05/2006

Recently at a meeting of the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development, FAO Investment Centre’s principal adviser Michael Wales joined senior representatives of the World Bank and BMZ in a new series of ‘Platform speaking’ interviews on improving collaboration on investment in the agriculture and rural development sector. Wales spoke on “towards a more flexible approach”. The Centre is closely involved with the World Bank in the Platform partnership, which was established in 2003 to streamline donor support to rural development and food security at global, regional and national levels. FAO co-chairs the Platform with BMZ (Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development). The Investment Centre is helping to undertake studies with other Platform members to strengthen donor harmonization efforts, and is currently leading a Global Study of Sector-Wide Approaches (SWAps) in Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. The other speakers interviewed were Kevin Cleaver of the World Bank and Christoph Kohlmeyer of BMZ.
