中国农业生产在取得辉煌成就的同时，影响农业可持续发展的挑战依然存在。保护性农业（在中国常用“保护性耕作”）对农田实行最低程度的土壤扰动（即免耕直接播种），维持永久土壤覆盖（秸秆残茬或覆盖作物），结合必要的作物多样化（与豆科植物轮作等）。保护性农业现已被全球100多个国家采用，成为旱地农业应用最广、效果最好的农业系统和技术之一。实行保护性农业能在农艺、环境和经济上带来收益，对中国绿色农业发展具有重要的意义。本出版物着重介绍保护性耕作在中国的发展历程、机遇与挑战、发展建议、技术装备、经验、案例研究和未来展望，旨在支持保护性农业（保护性耕作）在中国乃至全球的推广和应用。 与该项目相关的其他出版物:  《中国气候智慧型农业：从政策到投资》。粮农组织投资中心国别投资要闻第20号。  《中国可持续农业机械化：综述》。粮农组织投资中心国别投资要闻第21号
