Sustainable Food and Agriculture

The FAO Multipartner Programme Support Mechanism. General presentation of the FMM, as FAO unearmarked fund and an important tool to support FAO Strategic Objectives (FMM purposes, history, supportive resource partners, etc.).
FAO promotes the transition to sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural policies and governance mechanisms, working with countries on reviewing their policies and investment strategies and helping them align their policies and programmes in support of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Today’s key challenge is how to increase production to meet the growing demand for food, feed and bioenergy while conserving biodiversity and reducing the pressure on natural resources and ecosystems.
Effective management of animal genetic diversity is essential to global food security, sustainable development and the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people.
Feeding a rapidly increasing global population means that we will need to produce more food in a more efficient and sustainable manner. Fewer inputs must be used to achieve greater yields. The real challenge is not just in producing more, but to do so against a backdrop of climate change and degradation of natural resources such as fertile land, freshwater and biodiversity.
