Driving action across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
A new publication, Food and Agriculture: Driving action across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, has been released ahead of July’s High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2017.
With a focus on FAO’s support to countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it describes the pivotal role sustainable food and agriculture and developing rural economies can play in reaching the 2030 Agenda goals and targets, notably those for ending poverty and hunger, promoting inclusive growth, responding to climate change, and nurturing the planet.

The booklet places emphasis on the comprehensive vision of SDG2, End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, highlighting its strong bond with SDG1, End poverty, and crucial interlinkages between food, livelihoods and management of natural resources.
Pages are dedicated to spotlighting the crucial role that rural people can play as agents of change, and priority actions for achieving zero hunger are illustrated.
Featuring examples of partnerships and country actions across the globe, the booklet describes FAO’s longstanding experience in shaping policies and projects founded on the three dimensions of sustainability as well as custodianship of SDG indicators and expertise in monitoring. Particular attention is paid to partnerships with development actors as means of supporting governments and building an enabling environment to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM
Centred on the theme “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world”, this year’s High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) will focus on SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17. The HLPF is an annual intergovernmental meeting that provides guidance and recommendations, identifies progress and challenges, and mobilises action to accelerate implementation of the 17 SDGs.
