Helping Small Farmers Think About Better Growing and Marketing - A Reference Manual

2004

This training manual is designed to help improve the incomes of small farmers in the Pacific Island Countries (PICs).  The techniques presented in this manual provide the basis for making planning and marketing decisions that contribute to good farm management and that can complement   sustainable agricultural techniques.  Although the ultimate target group for these techniques are the farmers themselves, it is anticipated that this manual will be most useful for those who are helping and advising farmers: extension and development officers in the public and private sectors. The training manual is composed of eight chapters: Chapter 1: Introduction; Chapter 2: The context and role of facilitators; Chapter 3:  Farming systems development; Chapter 4: Farm management; Chapter 5: Marketing; Chapter 6: Production marketing linkage; Chapter 7: Risk and uncertainty; Chapter 8: Overall closing comment. It provides for trainer guidelines (chapter 2) and numerous practical exercises.
