The main aim of this FAO training package is to train adults that are economically active in numeracy skills and simple accounting methods. The training package is composed of three documents.  The first two documents Figures for bookkeeping vol.  I and vol. II can be used to train adults in gaining numeracy skills. Once these trainings have been completed the training manual on simple Bookkeeping and Business Management Skills can be used. This is a training manual which will provide economically active adults with the opportunity to use their newly acquired skills in numeracy for improving their business enterprises. These training manuals were first developed and tested in Ghana and so they use the former local currency in its examples and exercises. However, the information can easily be adapted to suit the local needs. These training manuals have been used for over two decades now in the field and have proven to be a very successful in training illiterate and semi-literate men and women in numeracy skills. It has been found that adults not only improve their abilities in coping with day-to-day business in food value chains but gain more self-confidence in their capacity to learn.
