The SFM Toolbox modules on Protected Areas and Wildlife Management have been completely revamped with updated information, new tools and cases for practitioners, policymakers, students and other stakeholders.

The Protected Areas module provides both basic and more detailed information on the planning and management of protected areas, with forest-specific considerations where appropriate. It also provides links to tools and case studies to showcase the various aspects of sustainable management of protected areas, including those where a significant portion of the area is natural forest. The updated module introduces the concept of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs), and features case studies highlighting the importance of indigenous peoples and community participation in management of protected areas.

The Wildlife Management module outlines the definition, the value and importance of wildlife resources and its sustainable management. It also addresses some current issues that are coming up at the point where wildlife management intersects with food security, livelihoods and well-being, and offers a forest-specific perspective where appropriate. In the updated module, you can learn about how socio-political context and the legal framework governing wildlife ownership play important roles in shaping harvesting models in various parts of the world. The module also includes a diverse set of tools on human-wildlife conflict mitigation, wildlife consumer behaviour change toolkit, and guidelines on wildlife diseases risk analysis.
