This article is part of the Proceedings of Taal 2007: the 12th World Lake Conference, pp. 965–980. It is a review of constructed wetlands since their first attempts in Germany during the 60s. Despite the mistrust of many civil engineers and water authorities, this method has been widely accepted and utilised around the world and it has become a suitable solution for wastewater treatments.
