Since the 1980s CATIE has been involved in the field of watershed management in Tropical America. Therefore for more than 25 years we have generated planning methodologies, management strategies, and monitoring and evaluation systems that have been applied in the different countries and regions of Latin America. The emphasis in recent years has focused on models for co-management, water recharge areas, territorial scaling, watershed agencies, funding mechanisms, vulnerability and risk management, mainly related to flooding, landslides and pollution. CATIE, through its Climate Change and Watersheds Program, supports the development of instruments and tools to achieve sustainable management of watersheds in the territories.
