After nearly 14 years of conflict, the Syrian Arab Republic faces a severe humanitarian crisis, with an estimated 16.7 million people in need of assistance and 14.5 million food insecure. In the north of the country, these challenges were further exacerbated by the February 2023 earthquake.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is implementing a multiyear resilience project in six governorates in the Syrian Arab Republic with high levels of food insecurity.
This document is to promote FAO and the UK Aid project, entitled "Building Local Resilience in Syria (BLRS)", which integrates a set of climate-smart, agriculture-oriented actions with gender-responsive interventions to help vulnerable farming communities in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) boost their production, become resilient to shocks and improve their food and nutrition security conditions and self-reliance.
