FAO supported the National Forum on Land Tenure in Cotonou
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations supported the National Forum on Land Tenure held on 14 and 15 November 2023 in Cotonou.
The workshop, organized by a consortium of civil society organizations including PNOPPA and CEBEDES-Xudodo, in partnership with research laboratories and universities, brought together a wide range of stakeholders. The event was attended by representatives of government, civil society, the private sector, land experts, researchers and international players, among others. The event provided an opportunity to present the results of current research, the governance principles of the consultation framework and the implementation of an early warning system, and the launch of the national dialogue framework. The workshop provided an opportunity to hear various presentations and to exchange ideas. The data collected will be used to build the framework for the national land policy through the development of an inclusive space for dialogue between all stakeholders, around events and phenomena related to land throughout the country.
This workshop follows an earlier one on land governance, held in May 2022, by organizations such as PNOPPA, Synergie Paysanne, ANOPER, and CEBEDES-Xudodo, in partnership with the Land Tenure and Development Technical Committee (CTFD).
FAO's support for this workshop is in line with its contribution to strengthening land governance worldwide, encouraging the introduction of policies and regulatory frameworks that promote equitable access to land and the peaceful resolution of land disputes, in line with the Voluntary Guideline for a Responsible Governance of Land, Fisheries and Forest in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT).
