FAO and Sharjah Consultative Council Discuss Collaboration for Sustainable Agricultural Development

Sharjah - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held a meeting with the Sharjah Consultative Council to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation in sustainable agriculture and food security.
The meeting brought together Mr. Kayan Akram Jaff, Head of Mission of FAO Subregional Office for the GCC States and Yemen, and H.E. Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council. Discussions focused on Sharjah’s achievements in agricultural development and strategies to promote sustainability and food security across the emirate.
Dr. Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, FAO Advisor on Food Security, and H.E. Rashid bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Member of the Sharjah Consultative Council, were also present, alongside representatives of the council.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Jaff praised Sharjah’s innovative efforts in the agricultural sector. “Sharjah is a regional leader in advancing sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation, setting a strong example for other communities,” he stated.
H.E. Dr. Al Nuaimi highlighted the emirate’s strategic focus on agriculture as a cornerstone of sustainable development. He pointed to the Wheat Farm Project in Mleiha as a key accomplishment, launched in 2022 to increase local food production and enhance food security.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation between FAO and Sharjah, focusing on innovative solutions to achieve sustainable agricultural development and strengthen food systems in the region.
