Africa Food Systems Dialogues kicking off in Kenya

08/06/2022

As part of the 2022 Multi-stakeholder Dialogues and Activities co-organized by FAO and ICLEI, on Thursday 9 June the first Food Lab Workshop on multi-level Goverance in Kenya will be launched.

The first workshop - Strategies for streamlining multi-level food system governance between local and national government in Kenya - will be conducted as a webinar, open to participants through this link

The aim of the project is to build and consolidate the processes and mechanisms for promoting multi-stakeholder dialogues on urban food systems as a follow-up to the UN Food Systems Summit established in Africa.

In doing so, the project will contribute towards strengthening food systems governance linkages between local and national level as well as seek to reinforce national and local governments’ role in the drive towards attaining food and nutrition security as well as resilience of the food system. It will propose possible key roles and actions that the national and county governments could embrace towards the realization of food security in Kenya.

There are a number of cities identified as pilot cities in Kenya: Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi and Nakuru.

Moreover, the project will offer a platform for peer to peer learning between Kenyan cities and other African cities as well as provide a space for them to highlight ongoing food systems initiatives in their cities.
