The 23rd session of the Committee on Forestry (COFO) is taking place at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 18-22 July. COFO meets every two years and brings together heads of forest services, senior government officials and representatives from international organizations and NGOs. The theme for COFO this year is Shaping a new agenda for forests, and delegates will address how forests and sustainable forest management can contribute to milestone agreements of 2015 and the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals.


FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva will address the opening session of COFO 23, where the State of the World's Forests (SOFO) 2016 - Forests and Agriculture: Land use challenges and opportunities – will be launched.
