WAW International Workshop, December 2017

Representatives of farming organizations and governments from partner countries – El Salvador, Madagascar, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia and Viet Nam – participated in WAW International Workshop hosted by IFAD from 19 to 20 December 2017. The workshop gave participants the opportunity to share lessons learned during the WAW pilot phase and discuss means of providing more effective support to countries in dealing with farm data collection and analysis.
At the end of the trial phase, because of WAW’s participative approach, all of the pilot countries opted to set up national observatories to document the transformation of their farming sector, with a particular focus on family farms. All of the participants recognized the added value of the conceptual framework, which reconciles the structural dimension of farming activities with the outcome of diverse on- and off-farm activities undertaken by family members. Consequently, WAW considers its conceptual and methodological framework to have been successfully tested in its six partner countries and ready to be developed in other countries.
