Towards an Interregional TCP: First step in Tunisia

24/02/2015

WAW Secretariat is developing an interregional TCP with the main goal of reinforcing countries’ capacities to generate improved knowledge on the diversity and transformations of holdings, including family farms, to inform ongoing policy dialogue, while facilitating inter-regional exchange and valorisation of work among country partners.

The project proposes two main outputs at country level, anchored and piloted nationally: 1) Pilot country case studies around typology and transformations; ii) Formulation of strategy and project for follow up activities to reinforce related information systems. To support such work, other activities include adaptation of WAW framework to country needs, support missions and training, exchange among partners (e-conference, D-group, inter-regional workshop).

A preparatory mission in Tunisia was achieved in December 2014, in order to further explore the interest of the Tunisian Government and Institutions, and prepare a project proposal. This mission lead to an official commitment from Tunisia to join the WAW Network. Similar missions are now planned in Senegal and Malawi so that at least 3 new countries would join this interregional TCP. Such TCP is imagined in complementarity with the IFAD grant, which will likely target other countries, with a similar organization of activities.
