WAW Consultant attended the IYFF Latin America & Caribbean Regional Dialogue

The Latin America & Caribbean Regional Dialogue of the International Year of Family farming (IYFF) took place in Santiago, Chile, the 30th and 31st of October 2013.

This regional dialogue aims at gathering different regional actors to identify and discuss of family farming challenges, opportunities for agricultural investment, and policy priorities to achieve food and nutrition security.

As a follow up of the WAW Consultation, held on the 8th of October 2013, Silvia Saravia Matus, WAW Consultant, attended the event. There was a large audience composed by representatives from ministries of agriculture, cooperatives, farmer associations, indigenous communities, etc. The session opened on the issue of the definition of family farming, highlighted its diversity of agricultural holdings. Speakers also focused on reviewing what each government was doing with respect to family farms needs.
