Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 16/10/2021
World Food Day 2021 will be the first International Day to be celebrated on 16 October at Expo Dubai, which runs from 1 October to 31 March 2022.
Expo Dubai hosts a series of activities and events calling for global solidarity in rethinking and reshaping food systems for people and the planet. A site-wide celebration will unite Expo’s family of stakeholders and visitors in a commitment to build forward better. The event theme is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
FAO is joining Expo and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates to organise three events at the Opportunity Pavilion:
Expo 2020 represents an extraordinary opportunity for the United Nations to engage millions of people and create lasting engagement, for action and impact. The UN presence at Expo will invite visitors to engage in the powerful story of the value of multilateralism through the celebration of International Days, thematic weeks and programming in the Opportunity Pavilion. World Food Day will be also celebrated in the UN hub.
The Best Practices Programme is one of the most important platforms of the World Exhibitions. FAO was selected as a judge for one of the focal areas.
Out of a total of five winning UN projects, FAO has two. The others come from WFP, UNEP and UNICEF. The two winning FAO projects are the Mountain Partnership, and a cross border project (Karamoja Cluster) that implements an integrated approach to resource sharing and livestock coordination for more peaceful and sustainable communities.
