On 28 June 2025, the Circo Massimo metro station will be inaugurated as a newly transformed cultural space dedicated to dialogue between art, agriculture, and sustainability. The initiative is promoted by FAO, in collaboration with Roma Capitale, ATAC, and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
The initiative will highlight the strong connection between FAO and the city of Rome, offering citizens and travellers the opportunity to discover FAO’s mission and the upcoming Museum and Network for Food and Agriculture – FAO MuNe – which will open to the public on 16 October.
The space will be brought to life by two installations that pay tribute to artists representing FAO’s past and future: on one side, a reproduction of Universo (1952) by Mirko Basaldella, the artwork that adorns FAO’s Plenary Hall; on the other, an illustration by Roman artist Lorenzo Terranera, created to celebrate FAO’s 80th anniversary and to honour farmers – the true artists of the land.
Located just a few steps from FAO headquarters, the station becomes a symbolic gateway to the future Museum and Network for Food and Agriculture – FAO MuNe, promoting an urban experience that brings together public art, food awareness, and global citizenship.
