Inauguration of Sustainable Pompeii

Pompei (Italy), 22/05/2025

On 22 May, FAO and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii will unveil the Sustainable Pompeii educational itinerary—an innovative project that connects ancient cultural heritage with today’s sustainability goals.

This permanent itinerary showcases the partnership between FAO and the Park, and their joint commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, integrating the agricultural and innovation history of Pompeii with FAO's mandate on food and agriculture.

The event will feature the participation of the Director General of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, FAO Director of the Office of Communications, Yasmina Bouziane, and other distinguished guests who have contributed to making this project a reality. Students from local schools involved in the Sogno di Volare project will present a preview of Lysistrata in the Forum. The programme will then continue at the House of Pansa, where local Agriculture Associations and the social farm Il Tulipano will showcase cultivation and winemaking techniques, along with products from Pompeii.

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is easily accessible via the Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri train station, with convenient connections to local and regional transport.

If you are unable to visit the park in person, you can still explore the Sustainable Pompeii itinerary through the dedicated webpage and the "MyPompeii" app. This app offers in-depth insights into historical sites and sustainable practices that continue to shape our world, and features a section with practical tips to help you adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.

Don’t miss this unique experience where ancient wisdom meets the challenges of the present.

Together, we can learn from the past to cultivate a sustainable future.
