Rome (Italy), 23/06/2025
FAO and Roma Capitale launched “Together for Food Education”, a joint initiative aimed at promoting healthy diets and sustainability in all municipal schools across the Italian capital.
The initiative was presented during an official ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri at the historic Campidoglio, celebrating FAO’s 80th anniversary in the presence of FAO Director-General QU Dongyu.
The educational campaign aims to raise awareness and strengthen knowledge on nutrition, agrifood systems, and sustainable consumption practices among students of all ages. It focuses on core areas of FAO’s mandate, including the promotion of healthy diets, the reduction of food loss and waste, and the fight against food insecurity.
For preschool children (ages 3–6), a new Junior Activity Book will be developed, designed to highlight in a playful and accessible way some of the key themes of FAO’s mandate, including the promotion of healthy diets and sustainable actions. The book will be part of an educational package that also includes an illustrated board game inspired by the city of Rome, encouraging participation and reflection even among the youngest learners. The materials will be accompanied by a dedicated teaching kit for educators and teachers.
For primary and secondary school students, starting in October 2025, it will be possible to take part in free guided tours of the new FAO Museum and Network for Food and Agriculture – FAO MuNe, which will be officially inaugurated on 16 October, on the occasion of World Food Day. Schools will also have the opportunity to host FAO experts in the classroom to explore key topics such as food education, healthy diets, food waste reduction, and the fight against food insecurity.
All relevant information regarding guided tours is available on the FAO Group Visits website, where teachers can access the dedicated section and submit a booking request directly.
