On October 24, 2024, FAO hosted a World Food Day event in Damascus, Syria, highlighting the vital role of farmers in food production. Seventeen farmers from various regions, including Daraa, Deir Ez-Zor, Hama, Homs, Lattakia, and Rural Damascus, showcased their authentic food products, such as dates, jams, pickles, local recipes, and dairy items. They provided insights into the entire production chain, from seedling to processed food, and shared their experiences with sustainable agriculture practices, including climate-smart approaches. The event fostered discussions on reducing food waste and promoting healthy, seasonal diets, emphasizing the importance of agricultural diversity.
