The Media Studies department at Amity University Dubai organised a vibrant and insightful event to commemorate World Food Day, an annual initiative driven by its Journalism and Digital Media students. Aligning with the global mission of the World Food Program, this year’s celebrations were centred on the powerful theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.” The event served as a dynamic platform to raise awareness and inspire action among the student community. It featured a series of engaging activities conceptualised and executed by the students, including a compelling poster exhibition, a thought-provoking short documentary, and an interactive quiz that tested knowledge on global food systems.
A pledge board allowed students to commit to making more conscious food choices. The session was graced by esteemed dignitaries who underscored the importance of the theme. The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rafid Alkhaddar, and the Dean of Humanities, Dr. Rajneesh Mishra, addressed the gathering, sensitiSing students towards mindful eating. They emphasiSed the critical link between dietary habits and long-term well-being, encouraging the youth to adopt a healthier lifestyle for a sustainable future. Adding academic depth to the discourse, Dr. Seema Sangra, Program Leader, delivered a keynote address highlighting a critical paradox of our times.
She elaborated on the concurrent global rise of both hunger and obesity, urging for a collective and nuanced approach to tackle these dual challenges in food security. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across all disciplines, reflecting a university-wide commitment to addressing pressing global issues. “The energy and creativity displayed by our students in addressing a theme as crucial as World Food Day is commendable,” said Dr Seema Sangra. “It is through such initiatives that we can hope to build a generation that is not only aware but also actively involved in creating a more equitable and healthy food future.”
