The Green Effort at FAO

FAO is committed to working in an environmentally sustainable way. We believe this means giving new attention to the ways we do things as an organization.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Recycle. Use FAO’s colour-coded waste bins

Reduce consumption of bottled water and cut plastic waste. Use a refillable bottle at one of FAO's new water fountains with both natural and sparkling water.

Consult documents online instead of printing or asking for extra copies

When printing, use the conference printers that are set to double-sided printing and filled with ecological paper.

Dress for the season. In a big building like FAO, every degree of temperature saved makes a difference.

Walk. Rome is a beautiful city, best visited on foot.  FAO is also conveniently situated for public transport.

The path to the Summit

Three important events have prepared the ground for the Summit:

The High-Level Expert Forum on How to Feed the World in 2050 examined policy options that governments should consider adopting to ensure that the world population can be fed when it nears its peak of nearly 9.2 billion people in the middle of this century.

The Committee on World Food Security considered reforms that will enable it to play a much more effective role in the global governance of food security.

The theme of World Food Day this year is how to ensure food security in times of crisis.
