Introduction

Based in Mauritania, and working closely with a number of partner institutions, the project undertakes research and development in the field of pesticide application in desert environments, specifically for the control of the Desert Locust, Schistocerca gregaria.

The project is funded by the Norwegian Government, and executed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, under the EMPRES (Desert Locust) programme through the Migrant Pests Group.

The overall objective of the project is to reduce the quantities of pesticide used in Desert Locust control by improving pesticide application techniques. Five specific areas are addressed:
