Groupe intergouvernemental sur l'évolution du climat (GIEC)
Le GIEC propose cinq types de publications : les rapports d'évaluation, les publications techniques, des lignes directrices et méthodologies, du matériel de soutien et un glossaire. Cette publication est le document de référence pour tous les aspects techniques reliant la foresterie et le changement climatique. La version complète n'existe qu'en anglais, elle n'est pas accessible sur Internet. C'est un ouvrage difficile à lire mais qui regorge d'informations. Par contre, un « résumé à l'intention des décideurs » de ce document existe en version française sur le site Internet du GIEC.
Le document principal se divise en six chapitres :
1. Perspective globale
2. Implications des différentes définitions et de sujets génériques
3. Activités de boisement, reboisement et déboisement
4. Activités humaines additionnelles - article 3.4 (du Protocole de Kyoto). C'est là qu'on retrouve des notes d'information sur différentes actions possibles pour atténuer le changement climatique
5. Activités basées sur des projets. C'est là qu'on trouve des discussions sur la mise en œuvre pratique de projets MDP dans les PED
6. Implications du Protocole de Kyoto pour les lignes directrices de l'inventaire
