Abundant rains in early July will benefit desalination of swamp rice fields. Rains started in mid-May in the east and covered the entire country in late May and June. Precipitation decreased in late June but became abundant in early July. Land preparation is well underway but with some delay in Cacheu region in the north-west. Recently planted coarse grains are emerging/tillering in the east and the north. Heavy rains in early July will benefit the desalination of swamps where the rice crop will be transplanted soon.
