THE GAMBIA:

Abundant and well-distributed rains were registered in July. Rains were generally above normal in early to mid-July and remained widespread in late July with high daily rainfalls (e.g. 84 mm in Kerewan), resulting in weedy fields. Farmers are busy with weeding. Conditions remain favourable for satisfactory crop development.

Grasshopper infestations decreased significantly after the heavy rains in July.
