88. This report on past research activities is nearly completed - the text is done but not all of the translation. The report covers the Southern Indian Ocean from 20°S south to the CCAMLR treaty area; as such it excludes tropical areas. Seventy-nine cruises are documented covering voyages by the USSR and Ukraine over the period 1974-1990. These cruises involved fishing by trawl, bottom longline, vertical lines and traps and also involved acoustic surveying.
89. Results showed that estimates of biomass were highly variable from day-to-day. Ukraine's view was that future work should focus on the earliest work as this may enable estimates of virgin resource sizes.
