FAO/GIEWS: Africa Report No.3 - December 2003 p.39
Aggregate production has been estimated by a joint FAO/CILSS mission at 3.4 million tonnes, more than one third higher than the below-average 2002 crop. Output of millet, the most important cereal crop, is estimated to have increase by some 50 percent to 1.1 million tonnes. Cereal import requirements have declined from last year to some 170 000 tonnes, to be mainly covered on commercial basis.
