FAO/GIEWS: Africa Report No.3 - December 2003 p.59
Zambia’s total cereal production in 2003 has been revised to 1.36 million tonnes. This is about 83 percent higher than the reduced level of 2002 and 35 percent above the five year average. As a result no imports of maize, the country’s main staple, will be necessary in marketing year 2003/04. Cereal import requirements are limited to reduced quantities of wheat and rice in which the country has a structural deficit but are met through commercial imports.
