PREPARATION OF THIS DOCUMENT

The Regional Workshop on Networking for Improved Access to Fisheries and Aquaculture Information in Africa was organized by the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), Grahamstown, South Africa, in collaboration with the Fisheries Information, Data and Statistics Unit of the Food and Agriculture Organization. The summaries in parts 1 and 3 of the report are based on the papers presented and discussions held at the Workshop as well as the 2002/2003 network reports, which were prepared by Sarah Lawrie of NISC South Africa, Margie Shaw and Victor Clarke of SAIAB and Jean Collins of FAO Fisheries Library. Part 2 of the report includes the papers presented at the workshop, plus three country papers supplied by people unable to attend. The papers and presentations are in the original language only, whereas Parts 1 and 3 have also been translated into French.

The views expressed in the papers and summaries are not necessarily those of FAO. The following are acknowledged for the organization of the workshop: Paul Skelton, Margie Shaw, Victor Clarke and Phumeza Mpambani all of SAIAB. For assistance in preparation of the report special thanks are due to Armand Gribling of FAO Fisheries Library.
