The "DR. FRIDTJOF NANSEN" RESEARCH PROGRAMME is sponsored by The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation NORAD, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO, and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP. The programme in Angola which has comprised nine previous surveys in the period 1985-1989 is being conducted and planned under agreements between NORAD, Angolan authorities, Centro de Investigacao Pesqueira, CIP, Luanda and the Institute of Marine Research, Bergen.

This preliminary cruise report describes the work and some of the results of the first survey of 1991. When referring to previous results, use has been made of the summary repot "Surveys of the Fish Resources of Angola 1985-1989", CIP Luanda, IMR Bergen, 1991.
