GUATEMALA LEGISLATION
-Vessels operating under licence types A or B must be registered in Guatemalan port within period prescribed.
-Foreign vessels may be chartered for fishing for a maximum of 6 months.
-Level of fees and royalty payments shall vary in order to encourage local landing and processing of fish
-Vessels operating under licence types A or B must land all catch at base port and process at their own plants.
-Vessels operating under licence types A or B must sell locally 60% of fish caught and 10% of shrimp caught.
-Vessels operating under licence type C may operate with motherships, provided that these are registered in Guatemala. subject to increased dockage charges.
-Legal agents or representatives of the owner must be maintained in Guatemala during the period of fishing operations for vessels operating under licence types B or C.
-Bonds must be deposited to guarantee performance of legal obligations for vessels operating under licence types B or C (Q. 2 000-5 000)
-Bycatch from shrimp operations to be landed in accordance with prescribed percentages for vessels operating under licence types A or B.

LEGISLATION
-Notice of sailing dates must be given to Port Captain, who will telegraph
Department of Fisheries for vessels operating under licence types B or C.
-Upon sailing, vessel operators must notify Port Captain as to whether they will be fishing for shrimp or other species.
-inspectors must inform Department of Fisheries of sailing and landings of vessel as well as quantities of fish taken.
-Persons or enterprises operating under licence types A or B must inform municipality and Department of Fisheries monthly of quantity of products received and processed.
